I take a look at myself. I was gripped like a Gen 3 by everything; the being together, singing, feeling chosen, living for a great purpose, the camaraderie, feeling at home. It totally grabbed me and I found so much joy and togetherness in being a Gen 3 and belonging. But slowly I was taken under a spell. And if for once a meeting or being together wasn't so nice; I said to myself, "Oh well, that doesn't make up for what I've already been through."

And then it happens again and again and again. But at the same time everything is also addictive and you let things happen that actually cross all your boundaries.

It changes people Are you still yourself?

We went to meetings and every time Chiara came we seemed to be under hypnosis. The atmosphere was intoxicating and it left you wanting more.

Later in the Focolare, I saw people turn into people who were so dependent on approval, wanting to fit in, that they acted like little incompetent children. Like the spell made them accept everything and it made them people who acted unworldly like toddlers.

Critical thinking is foreign to most Focolarine and that makes you dependent on what others tell you and expect from you. 

I call that the spell, the hypnosis, controlling people. And once you have broken that spell and you see through it, you can't go back from that. You realize where you have been and what has controlled you.

Andavamo alle riunioni e ogni volta che veniva Chiara ci sembrava di essere sotto ipnosi. L'atmosfera era inebriante e ti lasciava desiderare di più.

Poi dopo in Focolare ho visto persone trasformarsi in persone che erano così dipendenti dall'approvazione, dalla voglia di inserirsi, da comportarsi come bambini incompetenti. Come se l'incantesimo li facesse accettare tutto e li rendesse persone che si comportavano in modo non mondano come bambini piccoli.

Il pensiero critico è estraneo alla maggior parte delle Focolarine e questo ti rende dipendente da ciò che gli altri ti dicono e si aspettano da te. 

Lo chiamo l'incantesimo, l'ipnosi, controllare le persone. E quando hai spezzato quell'incantesimo e vedi attraverso, non puoi tornare indietro da quello. Ti rendi conto di dove sei stato e di cosa ti ha controllato.
