We continue with the Thought Control chapter of the BITE model. And the next point is.

Rejection of rational analysis, critical thinking, constructive criticism

There have been several moments in the Focolare Movement where people or groups of people have tried to push through changes or at least try to make things better for others.

But whether that was around Maras or the 1996 Rinnovamento (See an article by Turtles on that here, it is in Italian but on their website you can translate it in English) or the 34 Focolarini who have tried to bring about change in the years after Chiara's death.

I will not go into the events I mention above here, just read the article.

But very little was achieved. In particular, the power of an old inveterate generation of Focolarine stopped everything.

Everything must remain as Chiara once set it. And even when something was demanded from the Vatican to change, there were those who dared to say, "I don't know if this is from God." How haughty and how stupid. I think that the Franciscans or the Dominicans no longer live and work as their founders once did. An organization evolves with the times.

Constructive criticism, feedback, critical thinking and rational analysis ensures that an organization develops, innovates and moves forward. It sharpens the vision and the purpose for which it was created. It gives young people the chance to identify with the changes as a society changes and it gives them the feeling that their world has a place in the organization.

If something has not happened, it is that the Focolare Movement has not kept up with the times in the past. If you stick to the past (as Chiara started it) you lose the future. And that's what happened now. And pretending that all goes well, the Movement is on a slippery slope that will probably only get steeper. If the Movement does not quickly acknowledge that things are not going well, there will be no future.

Rifiuto dell'analisi razionale, del pensiero critico, della critica costruttiva

Ci sono stati diversi momenti nel Movimento dei Focolari in cui persone o gruppi di persone hanno cercato di portare avanti dei cambiamenti o almeno cercare di migliorare le cose per gli altri.

Ma che si trattasse di Maras o del Rinnovamento del 1996 (vedi qui un articolo di Turtles) o dei 34 focolarini che hanno cercato di cambiare negli anni dopo la morte di Chiara.

Non entrerò negli eventi che ho citato qui sopra, basta leggere l'articolo.

Ma molto poco è stato ottenuto. In particolare, la forza di una vecchia generazione incallita di focolarine ha fermato tutto.

Tutto deve rimanere come Chiara l'ha impostato una volta. E anche quando al Vaticano è stato chiesto di cambiare qualcosa, c'è stato chi ha osato dire: "Non so se questo viene da Dio". Quanto altezzoso e quanto stupido. Penso che i francescani oi domenicani non vivano e lavorino più come un tempo i loro fondatori. Un'organizzazione si evolve con i tempi.

La critica costruttiva, il feedback, il pensiero critico e l'analisi razionale assicurano che un'organizzazione si sviluppi, innovi e vada avanti. Acuisce la visione e lo scopo per cui è stato creato. Dà ai giovani la possibilità di identificarsi con i cambiamenti mentre una società cambia e dà loro la sensazione che il loro mondo abbia un posto nell'organizzazione.

Se qualcosa non è successo, è che il Movimento dei Focolari non ha tenuto il passo con i tempi in passato. Se ti attacchi al passato (come ha iniziato Chiara) perdi il futuro. E fingendo che tutto vada bene, il Movimento è su un pendio scivoloso che probabilmente diventerà solo più ripido. Se il Movimento non prende subito atto che le cose non vanno bene, non ci sarà futuro.
